Womens Snowboarding World Cup Title Holder to Defend Championship

Freestyle snowboarders kick off the 2008/2009 LG Snowboard FIS World Cup circuit this weekend at Cardrona in New Zealand.
One of the largest world cup snowboard competitions, 35 women and 75 men will compete, according to New Zealand’s Southland times.
The field includes defending snowboard World Cup title holder and 2007 Halfpipe World Champion Manuela Laura Pesko of Switzerland, event organizers say.
Other top women snowboarding contenders include 2006 Olympic bronze medalist Kjersti Buaas and Lisa Wiik of Norway, Australia’s Holly Crawford, Paulina Ligocka of Poland, France’s Anne-Sophie Pellissier and Sophie Rodriguez, Jiayu Liu of China and Japan’s Soko Yamaoka.
The Snowboard world circuit will be hosted in Argentina next, followed by Switzerland, Japan, Italy, Canada and Spain.
